I Know - Let's Use Paper!
Though I haven't seen a whole lot lately on the topic, an AP article in today's Rocky Mountain News caught my eye.
Titled "States put aside pricey voting machines", it talks about how in the wake of the highly charged 2000 presidential election Congress allocated $3 billion for improving voting equipment and procedures. Problem is, though a good chunk (the total is unknown) has been spent, many states, including California have banned electronic voting machines due to concerns about fraud.
This is ridiculous - while it may be true that some of these systems are poorly designed, coded, and secured, it is ludicrous that we are still relying solely on paper ballots. What a business opportunity there is to improve upon the failures this industry appears to be mired in!
